Cybex Arc Trainer

!±8± Cybex Arc Trainer

I love working out on the treadmill but have suffered with weak ankles my completely adult years, so using the treadmill can put stress on my ankles and cause them to swell and ache. As I was looking for an alternative to the treadmill that would give me the same cardio workout just until my ankles, felt better I was introduced to a machine called the Cybex Arc trainer.

The Cybex Arc Trainer is a Gait Simulator, which means it copies the motion of jogging and walking by keeping you balanced on two-foot plates that are in motion. This machine is dreams come true for me since its design provides cardio training with reduced stress on the body, and for me the ankle, since the feet never get off the platform. It positions the feet at a somewhat different angle, which allows you to work the larger muscles. A report done by Florida Atlantic University found that it was biomechanically more effective than most elliptical trainers were. The also stated that the it use improved areas of the knee and hip muscles. I only had to workout using the Arc Trainer for 30 minutes before I was worn out when it previously took me an hour for that same expenditure using the elliptical trainer.

There are two types of Arc Trainers, those with arms that move and those with stationary arms. I am more comfortable using the Arc Trainer with moving arms and feel I get a more effective workout. The arm on the Arch Trainer have handles similar to that of a bicycle. I do find sometimes that when I hold my arms at the handle, the position is too awkward for me. It does take some time to get use to because the first time I used it I experienced some strain in my lower back area. Since then I prefer to hold my arms at the part that is before the curve in the handle and now I do not experience the strain.

The Cybex Arc Trainer offers six different choices of exercises that can be performed on it. The choices of exercises on the Arc Trainer include cardio, hill, interval, strength, manual, and weight loss. The Resistance level can be adjusted from 1-100 and the incline level can also be adjusted for 1-10.

I visited Amazon.com and read the review on the Cybex Arc Trainer and all were very positive. Some noted that the long strides are the thing that give a challenging work out and, like me, for those who used the elliptical trainer previously after using the Arc trainer, cannot go back. It really is that awesome. I feel, if your goal is to burn calories in as little time as possible this is definitely the machine for you. I am like many who really do not like exercising with equipment that much but I will have to admit that this gives a great workout machine and I will continue to you it and recommend it to others.
